Long Walk To Freedom
This piece is inspired by Nelson Mandela's autobiography, "Long Walk to Freedom," first published in 1994 by Little Brown & Co.
Sena was so inspired by Mandela's life story; from his early beginnings, to his 27 years spent imprisoned in the infamous Robben Island, and his status as one of history's most revered leaders; that he spent two weeks thinking, drawing, rethinking, painting, rethinking and painting.
This re-interpretation of the famous photograph of Mandela staring out of the windows of his prison cell attempts to capture the multi facets of man - the rebel, freedom fighter, royal, survivor, and honored statesman.
